How to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this weekend

Whether you’re actually Irish or only honorary, Summit County has a variety of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. It’s time to don your green clothing, stuff your pockets with four-leaf clovers and get ready to party.
Though most bars, pubs and breweries will likely have some sort of St. Patrick’s Day event, here are a few standouts.
PEAK PINTS
Sevens, the restaurant inside the Great lodge at the base of Breckenridge Ski Resort’s Peak 7, has been transformed by Breckenridge Brewery into O’Sevens for the month of March. At 10,010 feet elevation, it is North America’s highest Irish pub.
From now until March 17, the pop-up bar is primed to welcome skiers and riders with a Nitro Irish Stout and Irish cuisine. During the weekend there will be live music, a snow sculpture bar, beer specials and more.
Breckenridge Brewery is also challenging people to find golden cans hidden in the new 12-packs of Nitro Irish Stout. The lucky folks who find the pot of gold can enter to win a trip for two to Ireland by taking a photo of their gold can and posting on social media.
SPARE A SHILLING
After skiing, it’s time to celebrate St. Patrick at HighSide Brewing in Frisco with the Celtic folk duo Four Shillings Short. Husband and wife Christy Martin and Aodh Og O’Tuama will fill the exciting evening with traditional and original music from the Celtic lands, medieval and Renaissance Europe, India and the Americas using over 30 instruments.
With 12 recordings and roughly 150 concerts a year, O’Tuama and Martin are experienced troubadours that have been performing together since 1995.
Martin, formerly in a band called Your Mother Should Know, was born into a musical family and started playing the sitar when she was 16. She took up folk music in the ’80s and has been playing the hammered dulcimer since 1993. She also knows how to play the mandolin, banjo, guitar, ukulele and other instruments.
Born in Cork, Ireland, O’Tuama studied medieval and Renaissance music in college. He received a music fellowship to study at Stanford University in 1984 and was previously in a group called the Drivelling Druids.
He knows how to play the tin whistles, doumbek, spoons, gemshorn, bowed psaltery, crumhorn and more.
The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 15. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or online at SummitMusicAndArts.org.
IRISH FOR A DAY
Sevens isn’t the only place getting a makeover. Frisco’s Prosit, usually a Bavarian-themed beer hall, is flying under a different flag this weekend. Following Thursday’s Marchfest, O’Prosty’s will have live jazz on Saturday and a special performance from the Shaky Hand String Band on Sunday. Guests can expect to find Guinness, the Irish red ale Smithwick’s and the dark Belgian beer McChouffe.
FEELING LUCKY
If you’re still looking for ways to drink green beer and Irish stouts, then head over to Napper Tandy’s in Breckenridge for the start of BreckInsider’s Luck of the Rockies pub crawl at 11:30 a.m. The crawl then heads to Motherloaded Tavern, Tiki Mana Island Grill, Blue Stag Saloon and Ollie’s Pub and Grub. Gold Pan Saloon hosts the after-party starting at 6 p.m. Guests will enjoy food and drink specials, a commemorative coozie and DJs.
Online pre-registration closes at midnight on Friday. Visit LuckOfTheRockies.com to snag the $10 tickets. If there are any left over, they cost $20 at the door, $15 for locals.
