"Obit" is a new film that showcases a life in 500 words, and it will be shown from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Breckenridge Theater, 121 S. Ridge St., as the third installment of the Breck Film Fest's Summit Film Society, a new initiative from the organization.
This newest film from acclaimed director Vanessa Gould takes a look at the daily rituals, joys and existential angst of a small staff of New York Times obituary writers, as they chronicle life after death for the pages of history.
In a unique twist on the grieving process, "Obit" showcases the writers who work under tight deadlines to produce copy that celebrates the lives of the recently deceased.
The film is not macabre, according to a news release. Rather, it is modest, observant, graceful and witty as it humanizes those who summarize the accomplishments of others.
The Summit Film Society is Breckenridge Film Festival's newest initiative to bring unique and independent films to Summit County through monthly screenings that are supported by The Summit Foundation, Kaiser Permanente, Breckenridge Backstage Theater and BreckCreate.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Tuesday and the movie starts at 7:30 p.m. A full bar, nonalcoholic beverages and snacks are available.
