USA Pro Challenge replacement in the works for next year

A group of private investors soon will announce a new Colorado cycling event for next summer, aimed at replacing the dead USA Pro Challenge with a more financially stable model that doesn’t rely on a single, deep-pocketed sponsor.
“There is agreement that the expense and challenge of a seven-day stage tour is one of the problems with professional racing in the U.S.,” said a person with knowledge of the group and its plans. “Recognizing that, we are looking at new ways of keeping professional racing in the country without repeating the challenges of previous attempts.”
