The Das Bier Burner 5 kilometer fun run raises money for the SOS Outreach — a youth development nonprofit that fosters self confidence, leadership skills and positive decision-making in underserved youth.
The running race begins at noon, and don’t be surprised if you see participants wearing traditional dirndls or lederhosen.
The trophy for crossing the finish line is a stein of Oktoberfest beer for runners 21 and over with a valid ID. Costumes are encourage and one contestant will be awarded with a best costume prize.
Free music and front-row vantage to German dance performances begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday and last throughout the afternoon.
“Once again we host Summit County’s own Those Austrian Guys, better known as TAG, who are the quintessential Bavarian Oompah band,” said Maja Russer, director of events and marketing for Keystone Neighborhood Company. “In addition, the local Summit Concert Band kicks off the music line up with their over 50 members.”
The festival will also feature the Edelweiss Schuhplattlers, based out of Morrison, to lead the guests in traditional German dances.
Keystone’s Oktoberfest caters to foodies, offering mouth-watering eats and craft libations throughout the weekend.
“Keystone, known for its fine dining, will be dishing up German fare o’ plenty with plates of Bavarian sausage sliders, German dumplings, braised saurbraten sandwiches and more,” Russer said. “In addition, New Belgium will be serving up seasonal, sought-after craft beers including their fall Pumpkick, Blackberry Barley Wine Ale and their Botanical Imperial IPA. With your commemorative stein purchase you receive three beers — we say ‘Prost!’ to that.”
