Kicking off the 2016 Lake Dillon Theatre Company (LDTC) summer season is “The Doyle and Debbie Show.” The musical runs from June 3-19 and will be performed at the Lake Dillon Theatre Company’s new interim theater at the Outlets at Silverthorne, Green Village. On opening night, The Outlets at Silverthorne will officially welcome the Lake Dillon Theatre Company with a ribbon-cutting celebration June 3 at 6 p.m.
“‘The Doyle and Debbie Show’ takes place in a small dive bar in Nashville during a concert performed by the former country star Doyle Mayfield, his singing partner Debbie, and their one-man band member Buddy,” said director Josh Blanchard, in a statement. “The audience becomes then the Nashville audience, while Doyle and Debbie take us on a journey through song with little bits of narration about their lives, hopes and dreams”.
DOYLE AND DEBBIE
“The Doyle and Debbie Show” is about an old-guard country singer Doyle Mayfield, who had a handful of hits with his duet partner 30 thirty years ago. Three decades, four wives and three Debbies later, Doyle finds himself travelling across America playing every dive bar and bowling alley along the way at one final attempt to regain his former “glory.”
“Doyle Mayfield is part of the ‘old guard’ of American country music, albeit not as famous or as successful of those before him,” said Chris Alleman in a statement, who plays Doyle. “He is incredibly likable, painfully naive of the world around him, and hopelessly nostalgic and misguided about his successes in the past in their world of country music. But, he is a ‘good ol’ boy.’”
Actor Brittany Jeffery, who plays Debbie, said her character is a hopeless optimistic.
“Debbie is a single mother who has always dreamed of becoming a big country star and she hopes that Mr. Doyle Mayfield will help her get there,” she said. “However, in her six weeks of touring with him she realizes that maybe he has just completely lost it. She is still hopeful her career will take off after this concert in Nashville and that all of her dreams will come true.”
LAUGH-OUT-LOUD LYRICS
The story of Doyle and Debbie is presented through song, in a smart way using silly lyrics.
“The songs are very interesting,” Jeffery said. “Make sure you are really listening to the words because they are very smart and sometimes quite inappropriate.”
“The Doyle and Debbie Show” is a “hilarious, satirical look at our obsession with celebrity and success,” according to Blanchard.
“At times, it ridiculously spoofs the country-western genre, but it’s more than just a glance into country music,” he said. “It’s a witty, entertaining show that I think will leave audiences laughing out loud.”
