The fourth and final phase of Frisco’s Step up Main Street project is well underway, with construction taking place from Second Avenue to Fourth Avenue. The primary purpose of the project is to improve drainage along Frisco’s main drag, while giving the street an update for the first time since 1982.
“We are ahead of schedule despite having lost two days to weather,” Frisco marketing and communications director Vanessa Agee said. “We are looking to complete the sidewalks in the next few days.”
Once that is done, the town will bring in a milling machine on Tuesday, May 10 to repave the road. The two blocks of Main Street will likely be closed for the subsequent weeks while work is underway, and drivers will be routed to Granite Street.
“We’re going to bring in our big machine that tears up the asphalt, and then we’ll start digging the road down like we have in every other phase,” town manager Bill Efting said.
With the sidewalks out of the way, pedestrians should have front door access to all businesses on Main Street.
“We’re gonna try to get this project done as early as possible, weather permitting,” he added.
Once the drainage and repaving is complete, the town will install new, custom-made light poles, and add the new brick pavers seen along the rest of Main Street.
“We’re very excited the phase is going well; we’re very excited it’s the final phase,” he added. “It will be good for another 25 to 30 years.”
While the end date for construction is set for June 30, Agee added that if work continues at this pace, the soil underneath the existing road is good and if the weather is dry, the work should be finished well ahead of time.
“If those two things work out, I think we’re gonna be in really good shape for an early completion,” she said.
