The 37th annual Salomon Run the Rockies weekend race series returns to Frisco Saturday and Sunday. The 2013 race offers both road and trail options to participants. Run the Rockies provides runners with challenging race courses, breathtaking scenery and an after-race event Saturday on Main Street in Frisco.

New this year, there will be staggered start times for the road half-marathon and the 10k races to allow more space between runners on the course. The road 10k and half-marathon take place Saturday.

Run the Rockies is known as an early season warm-up event in part due to a nearly 90 percent downhill course. Both Saturday races run through Ten Mile Canyon from Copper Mountain to Frisco. The 10k downhill ends on Frisco’s Main Street, the half-marathon continues on the recpath, turns around just before Farmer’s Korner, doubles back and ends on Frisco Main Street.

Two trail races take place Sunday on the Frisco peninsula. The race courses include 5k and 10k options that provide views of the reservoir and rolling climbs.

Last year, more than 700 entrants participated in what organizers call Frisco’s premier summer race. “The race keeps growing in appeal, most likely due to the breathtaking views as you run along the Ten Mile Creek,” stated Linsey Kach, Frisco recreation manager.

Day-of registration will be available both Saturday and Sunday. Day-of registration for the road races on Saturday will be between 6-8 a.m. at the Frisco Recreation Building, located at Third and Main. The 5K and 10K trail race day-of registration will be at the Frisco Day Lodge between 7-8 a.m. on Sunday.

Also new this year, Backcountry Brewery will host a carb-loading spaghetti dinner Friday night before the event for runners and guests. Plates will be $10 for adults and $5 for kids.
Race registration is online at www.RuntheRockies.com.
