Earlier this month, the town of Dillon received a $60,000 grant from Great Outdoors Colorado for phase one of a rehabilitation project at Dillon Town Park.
The first phase of the project is estimated to cost $80,000 and requires a 25 percent match from the town. Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall.
“We are thrilled that we were selected to receive this GOCO grant,” said Jennifer Cassell, chairwoman of the Dillon Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, in a news release. “Moving forward with this project has been a goal of the ... committee for some time, and partnering with GOCO will help us do just that.”
The proposed plan is to first prepare the overall park schematic design, including site grading, re-vegetation, layout and materials. Phase one construction will include a multi-use recreation field, a new playground, new park paths and trails, park nodes, gateways and a plaza.
“This is truly a great opportunity for us to redesign Dillon Town Park and increase its use by our residents and visitors,” Cassell said.
This month’s announcement comes after the town of Dillon last year held three community meetings about proposed upgrades to the park. The town contracted with Ceres + Landscape Architecture in Silverthorne and Zehren and Associates, of Avon, for the project.
GOCO invests a portion of Colorado Lottery proceeds to help preserve and enhance the state’s parks, trails, wildlife, rivers and open spaces. GOCO’s independent board awards competitive grants to local governments and land trusts, and makes investments through Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Created when voters approved a constitutional amendment in 1992, GOCO has since funded more than 3,500 projects in urban and rural areas in all 64 counties without any tax dollar support.
