Summit County government will host a community open house on Wednesday night, May 10, to accept public input on an overhaul of its countywide comprehensive plan to guide development and policy decisions for the next 10 to 15 years.
Master plans are updated periodically to address changing conditions, new socioeconomic trends and evolving community priorities. The last countywide plan was adopted in October 2009, and the new document will assist in making land-use decisions in unincorporated areas of the county.
"The master plan document lays out our community's vision and goals," County Commissioner Thomas Davidson said in a news release. "It's the yardstick we use to evaluate a great many policy proposals, so the input we gather during this process is of real consequence."
County planning staff has already held preliminary meetings with Summit's five planning commissions to identify key topics for discussion and feedback. The planning commissioners have highlighted a number of priorities, including community carrying capacity, workforce housing, short-term rentals, transportation and climate change. During the eight-month process, the surrounding community will be asked to participate to help revise the plan.
The first open house will take place at the Summit County Community and Senior Center in Frisco (83 Nancy's Pl.) on May 10, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. All are welcome for the chance to talk with county staff and planning commissioners. Light refreshments will be served.
