Breckenridge Ski Resort set to kick off opening weekend with 82 acres of terrain

#Breckenridge, Colorado.

Free Bavarian cream-stuffed Nutella eclairs will greet the first 2,000 visitors at the base of Peak 8 when Breckenridge Ski Resort opens Friday, Nov. 8.
Peak 8 is the first of five peaks to open at Breckenridge for the 2013-14 winter season. Approximately 82 acres of terrain on Springmeier, Middle Four O’clock and Trygve’s will kick off opening day. The top of Park Lane will also be open.
Kristen Petitt Stewart, Breckenridge Ski Resort senior communications manager, said excitement has been building this week for the start of the season.
“We’re excited to get this historic ski season up and running on Friday,” she said. “This week is fun for us here as we finish our final preparations on Peak 8.”
The Colorado SuperChair, 5-Chair and Rip’s Ride will start turning for the public at 9 a.m. on Friday. Officials anticipate more terrain will open for the upcoming weekend.
Besides the eclairs, skiers and riders can also attend the TBar party with specialty Red Bull cocktails starting at 11 a.m. The person wearing the “zaniest” costume or with the craziest dance moves at the Ski Hill Grill will get to tap the first keg of the Peak 6 inaugural season commemorative Amber Ale.
This season will feature the grand opening of trails on Peak 6, which Stewart anticipates will open in mid-to-late December with the upper mountain terrain.
“We have so much to look forward to this year with the return of the Winter Dew Tour and the much-anticipated opening of Peak 6, it’s going to be a season not to miss,” Stewart said.
Breckenridge Ski & Ride School will also offer private and group lessons beginning opening day. The Gold Runner Alpine Coaster, 2,500 feet of track guests can ride down the mountain, also opens at 11 a.m. The last chair of the day will be at 4 p.m.
There’s not much snow in the forecast for the weekend, with highs in the low- to mid-40s and low chances of precipitation.
As part of the opening weekend celebrations, the 11th annual Wake Up Breck takes place Thursday, Nov. 7 starting at 7 a.m. The ski resort will hand out free commemorative coffee mugs — a free cup of coffee included — for 1,500 people. Locations include: Starbucks, Coffee Cart at City Market, Coffee Depot at Main St. Station, Kava CafĂ©, Daylight Donuts, Cool River Coffee House, Clint’s and Cuppa Joe’s.
The scavenger hunt to win a chance to ride the first chair of the season will also conclude Thursday. The resort hid six large wooden carvings in the shape of the new Peak 6 logo in six different Colorado counties, posting hints on its Instagram feed. The final carving on Thursday will be hidden somewhere in Breckenridge.
