Summer lodging reservations in the town of Breckenridge are pacing ahead of last year’s figures despite soft numbers for the month of June.
The data, representing figures compiled April 30 and released this week by the Breckenridge Resort Chamber and Breckenridge Central Reservations, shows early summer lodging reservations are up about 2 percent compared to last year.
Although July occupancy estimates are looking strong, particularly during the Fourth of July weekend, Bill Wishowski, vice president of the chamber and central reservation’s office, said June occupancy rates are trending slower than last year.
“June is soft so far, partially because group reservations are down,” Wishowski said.
Groups, such as associations, corporations and businesses who travel to Breckenridge for conferences, “come and go,” Wishowski said. “They come one year and then we don’t see them for several years. It probably hasn’t helped there’s a perception that it’s not yet summer.”
This year Independence Day falls on a Thursday and occupancy levels are on pace to be at about 70 percent of capacity, according to the report. Occupancy rates through the July Fourth weekend also are on pace to be higher than a year ago.
Although it is too soon to gauge occupancy levels beyond July, Wishowski said hotel reservations during Breckenridge Oktoberfest, scheduled for Sept. 14, are already on pace with last year’s numbers.
The Breckenridge Chamber Resort & Breckenridge Central Reservations monitors occupancy rates for 72 percent of Breck’s available short-term rental units, including hotel rooms, condos, townhomes, private homes, timeshares and fractional ownership properties.
