Parklets return to Frisco businesses on June 10, causing closure on Main Street


On Tuesday, June 10, parklets will return to businesses in downtown Frisco.

This year, over 35 parklets will be deployed along Main Street and several adjacent avenues. In 2020, Frisco first launched its parklet programming after constructing parklets using funding from the Colorado Department of Transportation’s revitalizing main street's grant program.


In order to place the parklets in front of businesses, Main Street will be closed from 6 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, June 10. A detour will be in place to divert traffic from Main Street onto Granite and Galena streets.

Spruce Creek Road to close for improvement work for up to a month in June

 


Spruce Creek Road will close for three to four weeks starting June 9 while the Town of Blue River conducts major road improvements, according to a news release. The project will address drainage, regrade and pave the road from Colorado Highway 9 to Gold Nugget Drive.

Crown Drive will only be open to local traffic during the construction. Residents, including short-term renters, in the area will be able to access their homes. Residents on the closed area of Spruce Creek Road, Louise Placer Road and Miners Court will access their homes via Gold Nugget Drive.

Blue River expects the work to be completed before the Fourth of July weekend, but it has plans to open the road July 3-7 if not.

Summit County golf courses gear up for summer season

Although it may seem like Summit County’s golf courses were covered deep in snow not that long ago, the start of the season is closer than expected.

According to Keystone Resort’s summer operation plans, Keystone’s River Course is expected to be the first golf course in the county to open for the season on Friday, May 10.

The Keystone Ranch Course alongside the Breckenridge Golf Club will then tentatively open a week later, on May 17.

Over in Silverthorne, the Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks has a projected opening day of May 24. Copper Creek Golf Course at Copper Mountain is expected to be the last golf course in Summit County to open for the season on June 7.

A bill hiking taxes for many short-term rentals in Colorado dies in first committee hearing

A bill that would have significantly grown taxes for thousands of short-term rentals in the state was killed in its first committee hearing late Tuesday even after the sponsor attempted to make changes to the legislation.

In its original form, Senate Bill 33 would have required any property used as a short-term rental for more than 90 days per year to pay the state’s lodging tax. Colorado’s property tax assessment rate for lodging properties in 2023 was 27.9%. For residential properties, it was set at 6.765%. 

Sen. Chris Hansen, a Denver Democrat and prime sponsor of the bill, proposed changing the bill into only a study of short-term rental impacts. His amendment also would have prevented hotels from reclassifying their units as short-term rentals to avoid higher taxes.
