We’ve come full circle since the beginning of summer. The recent cold rains remind me of how the spring lingered — and then continued to linger. It seemed like summer would never get here. Walking out of the house in the early morning these days — when the air is still crisp, cold and fresh — the expectation of rain turned to snow brings a smile to my face and not the dread of a summer day wasted. Sometimes, that period between summer and when the lifts start turning can feel long and dreary, but a good cure for shoulder season blues are some quick hits from ski videos. The fresh corduroy on groomers, deep pow in the back bowls … OK, I’m getting ahead of myself here.
PUMPKIN FEST
This weekend, the town of Silverthorne is holding their annual Pumpkin Fest — once again giving away truckloads of pumpkins ripe for the carving before Halloween. If you didn’t get a chance to add your mark to the “Before I Die” exhibit while it was next to the Pavilion or at the Outlets, the art project will be on display at the festival. There are lots of activities for the kiddos, including a 10-car barrel train, face painting and a bounce house. There is also an 8-foot pumpkin launcher — need I say more?
SUMMIT GIVING
The fourth annual Bellyween event benefiting Advocates for Victims of Assault is Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Riverwalk Center. This family-friendly belly dance variety show features more than 30 belly dancers from around the High Country who will be performing in elaborate costumes to music ranging from rock classics to alternative remixes.
MUSIC
The amount of live music around town has dwindled, but the Snake River Saloon in Keystone continues to host bands every Friday and Saturday. This week, the Denver-based Bandits will be pumping out the heavy aggressive rock tunes. Relatively new to the national touring circuit, the band has released a four-song EP online and have their own music video premiering soon.
