Starting Monday, April 6, Keystone Resort will open its chairlifts to skiers and riders a half-hour later at 9 a.m. for the ski area’s final week of the winter season.
The resort’s last night of night skiing was Sunday, April 5, and Keystone will stop turning its lifts this week at 4 p.m. through closing day on Sunday, April 12.
The resort will end its season with its annual Slush Cup, in which competitors on skis and snowboards put their pond skimming skills to the test as they vie for a 2015-16 Summit Value Season Pass awarded for best overall, best crash and best costume.
New this season, a lower-impact pond will be available for contestants ages 6 to 13, and teens aged 14 to 17 can choose between skimming in the children’s or adult’s pond.
Participants can register online at 2015keystoneslushcup.com for the event, which will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Mountain House Base Area and feature live music from the instrumental surf band The Beloved Invaders.
Both Breckenridge Ski Resort and Copper Mountain Resort will close for the winter season the following week, on Sunday, April 19.
Breckenridge will close out its season with Spring Fever events, including a concert series with live music from the bands Third Eye Blind, Eric Paslay, American Authors and The Infamous Stringdusters at the Peak 8 base area.
The resort’s 19th annual Imperial Challenge mountain triathlon will be April 11, the final race of the Breck Ascent Series will be April 15, and the ski area will host a luau on closing day. For more information, visit Breckenridge.com.
Copper’s end-of-season events include the resort’s second annual Color Run 5K snow run on April 11 and the final opportunity for skiers and riders to earn the last of the 40 free Icelantic skis and Never Summer snowboards offered through the FirstBank Capture the Cube contest.
The ski area will host the band Reel Big Fish as well as the Red Bull SlopeSoakers, a twist on the traditional pond skim that will give competitors a chance to strut their stuff across floating rails and earn prize money on April 18 in the fourth annual contest.
On April 19, the Denver band Oakhurst will play, and the resort will host its Eenie Weenie Bikini Contest. For more information, visit coppercolorado.com.
Loveland Ski Area will close May 3, and Arapahoe Basin Ski Area has not yet announced a closing date.
In Eagle County, Beaver Creek will close April 12, and Vail Mountain will close April 19.
