Arapahoe Basin Ski Area will extend its season again with two more weekends in June.
The resort announced the decision Friday, May 30, to turn its lifts June 13-15 and June 20-22.
“We’re usually open for Mother’s Day weekend, but now the dads get their weekend,” said communications manager Adrienne Saia Isaac.
When a storm came through Sunday, she said, the ski area received precipitation known as graupel, which is somewhere between snow and hail. A-Basin reported 3 inches of new snow Monday morning.
“The conditions looked really good, the skiing was still really good,” Isaac said. “At that point, we knew we could go further.”
Around 2 p.m. Friday, she said, the base was receiving some rain and the temperature at the summit was 35 degrees. If the temperatures drop, the ski area could see more snow, she said, which is not uncommon for this time of year.
Last May, the resort saw 15 days of snow that totaled 47 inches, including a storm that brought 6 inches on May 31. At this time last year, though, the base had about 20 fewer inches than what it does now, Isaac said.
The ski area previously announced it would extend its season past its planned June 1 closure to include the weekend of June 6-8.
Starting Monday, June 2, lifts won’t operate Mondays through Thursdays. Those who want to hike or skin the slopes during the week should check the ski area’s website to make sure uphill access is permitted that day.
