After a summer full of activities at the Frisco Adventure Park, the staff is ready to switch gears toward wintertime fun.
For the past several months, locals and visitors have been frequenting the park to ride along bike paths, race the dual slalom track, rip it up the skate park, hike the Frisco peninsula trail system and test their skills at Frisbee golf. The Adventure Park has also been a popular place for birthday parties and other celebrations, and it served as a hub for a plethora of community events.
“We love to have the community out here. It’s a neat place to explore winter or summer,” Jon “Zeke” Zdechlik, the park’s general manager, said.
Soon, visitors to the park will switch out their bicycles and hiking shoes for skis and innertubes. The ground will be covered with snow, and the Adventure Park will be transformed into a winter haven.
The Adventure Park’s hill features lengthy 1,200-foot lanes with lift service up the hill for tubing day or night under the lights.
“Summit County is all about winter, getting out and playing in the snow,” Zdechlik said.
The tubing hill has been a major attraction in Frisco since its inception in 2010, he said. “It’s a great event for everyone in the family to do together — and it’s a kick in the pants.”
The Adventure Park also features a beginner ski hill and accompanying beginner ski or snowboard lessons. Instructors come from Copper Mountain to introduce newbies to the popular Summit County pastimes.
“The act of sliding and gliding is a little foreign to us and it can be intimidating, so we built beginner skill features up and throughout the field,” Zdechlik said.
Visitors to the Adventure Park can come to have fun for just an hour or spend the entire day, enjoying not just the park but also the nearby Frisco Nordic Center and Two Below Zero Sleigh Rides, Zdechlik said.
The Adventure Park is in a convenient location just outside of Frisco, but it can feel like feel like a totally different place, Zdechlik said.
“Every time I come out here I go, ‘Wow, this is why I live here. What an awesome place in an awesome environment,’” he said. “A lot of folks who haven’t had that experience in the mountains can find their spot and disappear into their own little world.”
It’s also a safe place for children to play and for adults to play like they’re children, he said. “The troubles of the world are off their shoulders and they’re enjoying what they’re doing, and it can really be a bonding experience.”
The Frisco Adventure Park is currently hiring for the upcoming winter season, which is scheduled to start on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28.
The park’s manager said he’s looking for enthusiastic and energetic people to join the team.
“They should enjoy being around other people and sharing their winter experience — basically folks that are fun to be around and can provide great guest services,” he said.
The Frisco Adventure Park offers a variety of way for guests to pay for access, including hourly fees, 10-punch passes and family-and-friends season passes geared toward locals at discounted rates.
